Study abroad programs and destinations

Every student deserves the opportunity to study abroad, not just those with the biggest budget. So we built programs around what actually matters: direct enrollment at a university overseas, English-taught classes alongside local students, and a price that covers your education, housing and support, with the rest left to you, including options to study abroad for the summer, a semester, or a full academic year.

How our programs work

You enroll directly at a partner university abroad and take that university's own English-taught courses alongside its students. There's no separate program for visiting students and no study center. Programs run for a summer, a semester or a full academic year, and you receive an academic transcript from the host university.

Which length is right for you

  • Most common

    Summer

    Summer

The shortest option, and across U.S. study abroad the most common one. Good if you work during the school year, carry a course load that doesn't flex, or want a first trip abroad without committing to four months.

  • Semester

    1 term

A full term at the host university, on its academic calendar.

  • Academic year

    2 terms

Two terms at the same university. The longest option, and the one where you stop being the new international student and start being someone who lives there.

What you pay for

You pay for your education, your housing, and the support around both. Excursions, weekend trips and optional extras aren't bundled in. You choose those yourself, and you pay what you choose. That's the structural reason our programs cost less.

Academic credit

  1. Host university courses
  2. Transcript from the host
  3. Your home institution decides

Short answer: the courses carry credit at the host university, and you'll get a transcript from them.

Whether that credit counts toward your degree at home is your home institution's call, not ours. What we do is make that conversation easier — course information, credit and grade conversion references, and guidance through whichever approvals your school requires. What we won't do is tell you your credits are guaranteed to transfer, because that isn't ours to promise.

Destinations in development

We're building across five regions, and the list is deliberately mixed with destinations students already search for, alongside ones that rarely show up in a study abroad catalog.

That mix is the point of Access Study Abroad. Where you study should come down to what you want and what you can afford, not to a short default list someone else decided on.

Click a region on the map, or choose one below, to see what it offers.

How to pick where you go

Most students start with a country and work backwards, but it's worth doing it the other way around.

Four things actually decide it: what you need to study, how long you can be away, what you can afford, and where you genuinely want to spend a few months. Get those straight and the list narrows itself.

We'd rather help you think that through than talk you into whichever destination we happen to be pushing. If you want to talk it through with someone, that's what your advisor is for!

And if you're trying to work out whether a particular place is a good fit for you specifically, as a first-generation student, a student of color, an LGBTQ+ student, a student with a disability, or someone whose passport makes visas harder, just ask us. You'll get a straight answer about each destination, including the parts we're still working on.

We won't tell you how a country will treat you. We'll tell you what we know and help you decide.

Which destinations will open first?

We're confirming university agreements now, and we publish each destination — with its universities, dates and costs — when it's signed. Pre-applying is how you hear first. It also genuinely affects the order we build them in, because we look at what students are asking for.

Are courses really taught in English?

Yes, in every destination, including the countries where English isn't the local language. English-taught degree tracks are more common at universities overseas than most students realize. Plenty of students take a local language course alongside their other classes where the university offers one.

Will I be in class with local students?

Yes — that's the whole model. You enroll in the university's own courses, not in a separate section built for visiting students.

How many credits will I earn?

It depends on the university and how many courses you take. You'll get a transcript from the host university, and your advisor will help you build a course load that fits your degree requirements back home.

Can I go for just a summer?

Yes, and it's a real option rather than a lesser one. Summer is the most common length for U.S. students studying abroad.

What will it cost?

We don't have final pricing yet, and we'd rather tell you that than publish a number we'd have to change later. What we can tell you now is how the pricing works: you pay for education, housing and support, and you choose and book any extras yourself.

When are the deadlines?

Each one is set against its university's academic calendar, and we'll publish them with each program. Pre-apply now and you won't miss one.

Tell us where you want to go

Pre-applying takes a few minutes, costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It gets you first word when programs open — and it tells us which destinations students actually want, which shapes what we build next.
